x = Independently Organised Event

Venue: DPS-Modern Indian School

Date: 13th November

What is TEDx?

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxYouth@DPSMIS, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxYouth event, TED Talks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

Azza Salah

The idea of an entrepreneur as a whole has been boiled down to one single element; Hard work. It's crucial without a doubt, however, the world often forgets about the other elements that make a successful entrepreneur. Meet Azza Salah; She's here to change your mind on the conventional idea of entrepreneurship. Having started work at the mere age of 16, she has always attributed her success on her keen intuition and aim to absorb every single opportunity.
With this drive, she founded her own company, SkyClimbers, which provides practical experience to the youth of Qatar in the fields of arts and media to further the human development pillar of Qatar's vision 2030. Register now to listen to this inspirational entrepreneur offer a refreshingly honest take on the world career paths and success as she elaborates on the importance of part-time and volunteer work and the sheer necessity for youth empowerment.
Khansa Maria

Meet Khansa Maria. She's not here to be your inspiration. She is, however, here to change your perception on disability. Khansa is a sophomore at Georgetown University, Qatar with a burning interest in alleviating the stigmas surrounding this issue of disability. She is also visually challenged, therefore, she has first-hand knowledge of these stereotypes and their negative effects on the disabled community. In 2016, she founded Hope for Tomorrow, which is an organization that aims to combat the stigmas surrounding disabilities in order to bridge the gap between the disabled and the able-bodied. Make sure you register to hear her perspective on life.
Stefan Lindberg-Jones

Meet Stefan Lindberg-Jones, CEO of Ginger Camel, one of the top media and production companies in Qatar. Stefan has had a rollercoaster of a life. From spending over two years chasing his passion for recording music to qualifying as a masseur. During his crazy journey, he's worked for OSN and ITV. He ultimately established the Your Onion podcast, a business podcast that aims to analyze diverse businesses across Qatar by peeling away each layer all the way from the CEO's to the janitors. Register now to listen to his talk.
Shefa Ali

Presenting our fourth speaker, Ms. Shefa Ali! Shefa captivated us from the very start with touching stories of her volunteering and charity experience. From climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania for raising awareness and funds for the Kilimanjaro Orphanage Centre to engaging in charity initiatives across the UK, Shefa embodies the spirit of service. The ultimate deception she hopes to decode about volunteering is that opportunities are hard to find and require a lot of money. The very act of charity itself has been reduced to big actions that ultimately mean very little. Shefa Ali is here to show you otherwise. Register now to listen to her talk.
Dima Khatib

Presenting our 5th and final speaker, Dima Khatib! Dima is a greatly accomplished woman. She is the managing Director of AJ+, an award-winning digital news service in English launched by Al Jazeera Media Network. She is also currently the only female executive director within the Al Jazeera group and one of the few female leaders in the Arab media sphere. She has valuable experience working as a live news producer for the Al Jazeera Arabic Channel. She's covered the Iraq War and has interviewed several leaders such as Hugo Chávez. Her journalistic career has greatly shaped her perspective on various aspects of media and journalism and the greater tendency to resort to sensationalism and bias in media. With unprecedented takes on our theme, Decoding Deceptions, Dima is definitely an exciting addition to our event!

Principal's Message

Dear Students,
“The greatest deception men suffer is from their own opinions”, said Leonardo da Vinci. The students of DPS MIS not only helped themselves decoding their deceptions but also made us overcome our apprehensions, taking up the charge of TEDx platform. Born four years back reinforcing the thought in us “You are never too old to set another goal or... to dream a new dream”, the TEDx stage has glorified itself in themost extraordinary manner, subjugating the fear within, challenging its own challenges, expanding its boundaries and outshining. I congratulate all the students who stand as a TEDx unit, conceiving, executing and making the plan work out successfully every time, all on their own, thereby facilitating themselves chiselling their entrepreneur skills, inculcating self-discipline working within timelines, enriching themselves with added sense of responsibility.
TEDx provides our students with a platform to enhance their skill set of formulating ideas, public speaking, convincing the audience and setting stage on fire through their personality, providing a holistic growth taking a step towards being a global citizen by inspiring and getting inspired. The journey so far has been a captivating and enthralling one.
May this charisma grow each year!

Lead Organiser's Message

It brings me the greatest happiness to witness the official commencement of the fourth edition of the TEDxYouth@DPSMIS series. Seeing the event and its making take off truly does put matters into perspective. It is the ultimate privilege to serve as the Lead Organizer of the 2018 event along with my talented Executive Team. My vision for the event is simple: To challenge the youth of Qatar through ideas.... With the theme of our event being set as ‘Decoding Deceptions’, I would like to take a moment to reiterate that it is critical to stop pandering to the mainstream narrative. With the rapid progression of social media as a staple source of information, it is imperative to spread the message of critical thinking and individuality among the youth of Qatar.
The 2018 event marks our 4th edition in the TEDxYouth@DPSMIS series. It is with great gratitude that we stand to be the longest running TEDxYouth event in Qatar. It is only fair to say that this event would not have been possible without the support of our Management, our Principal, Ms. Asna Nafees, our Headmistress, Ms. Soma Bhattacharjee, and the numerous other key individuals who have guided us along the road. The support for our event has been overwhelming and is truly appreciated. It only gets more exciting from here.
So, whether you’re a speaker, volunteer, or participant, I hope to see you all on November 13, to witness history in the making.
